What Is Steps for Hope?
Steps for Hope is a charity 5K run and 2-mile walk being held on April 18, 2026. The event is hosted at Icarus Brewing Co. in Brick Township, New Jersey. Check-in is scheduled to open at 7:00 AM, and the race will be kicked off at 8:00 AM.
Runners, walkers, families, and local businesses are all invited to take part. The finish line is located at Windward Park, and activities are expected to wrap by noon.
This event was organized to bring together people from across Ocean County and beyond. It is a morning built around movement, togetherness, and a cause that deserves attention.
How You Can Get Involved
There are a few ways to participate and show your support.
Volunteer > Helping hands are also needed on event day. Volunteers assist with check-in, course support, and other logistics.
Become a Sponsor > Other local businesses are encouraged to get involved too. Sponsorship packages are still being accepted.
Register to Run or Walk > Registration is still open for both the 5K run and the 2-mile walk. All skill levels are welcome.
The Cause Behind the Event
All funds raised through Steps for Hope are directed to JAR of Hope. This is a New Jersey-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by Jim Raffone. His son Jamesy was diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, also known as DMD, back in 2013.
What Is Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy?
DMD is a rare and fatal genetic disease. It is caused by a mutation in the dystrophin gene. Without that protein, muscle fibers are left unprotected and slowly break down over time.
Roughly 1 in every 3,500 live births is affected. Boys are impacted most often. Walking is typically lost between the ages of ten and fourteen. Breathing and heart function are eventually compromised as well. There is currently no cure.
How JAR of Hope Is Making a Difference
JAR of Hope funds research scientists and clinical trials focused on treating DMD. The organization has also been involved in groundbreaking stem cell research. Beyond the lab, support is provided directly to families navigating life with Duchenne.
Every dollar raised at Steps for Hope is put toward that mission.
Why Dan Can Home Services Got Involved
Our company was built on family. Dan Latini started Dan Can Home Services to serve homeowners and businesses across Burlington, Mercer, Ocean, and Monmouth County. His wife Danielle and their kids are all part of the operation.
So when a local event like Steps for Hope comes along, it hits close to home. Supporting families in our service area is not limited to pest control. It also means showing up for causes that matter to our neighbors in Brick, Toms River, Jackson, and the surrounding towns.
We believe local businesses have a responsibility to give back. Sponsoring Steps for Hope felt like a natural fit.
